Kleinfeldt Consultants Limited was retained to provide a broad range of services to the Client in preparation for the sale of over 200 acres of mixed agricultural and institutional lands. The property included more than 20 closed hospital buildings surrounded by 100 acres of agricultural land containing an unregistered private landfill site. The following services were provided to the Client:
Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessment.
Hazardous Material Survey and assessment of 20 buildings.
Area-wide soil sampling and analysis of 100 acres of agricultural lands, to assess pesticide content.
Development and submission of a Management Plan to the Ministry of the Environment to cap and monitor the landfill site.
Design and Project Management of Remedial Work for clay cap for landfill site.
Co-ordination and installation of methane monitors and long-term monitor readings.
Oversee Trust fund disbursement of $1.6 M site clean-up.
The scope of work included providing processes to achieve the technical requirements for the site cleanup to manage the requirements for approvals, long-term monitoring and maintenance. In addition, there was an evaluation of the primary restriction to passive recreational use of the landfill site and the secondary restriction on residential development within a specified zone around the perimeter of the landfill.
