BGS Homes is the builder/developer of a new Senior Apartment Building to be constructed in Whitby, Ontario. Kleinfeldt Consultants Limited were the Structural Engineers on the project responsible for the design of the foundatio
ns and raft slab.
The foundations consist of spherical welded tube steel piles filled with concrete.
On November 14, 2011 construction began with the driving of piles, and Bermingham Foundation Solutions of Hamilton, Ontario were contracted to drive the piles.
The first set of driven piles were tested by means of Pile Driving Analyzer (PDA) testing carried out by EXP Services Inc. (formerly Trow Consultants) on November 15, 2011. The second day of testing was November 18, 2011.
Concrete was poured by the contractor on Friday, November 25, 2011, and photos were taken of the concrete being poured as well as the rebar cage.
As of Friday, December 2nd, the driving of steel piles was still ongoing, as the two photos below illustrate:
