The ASTM Pedestrian/Walkway Safety and Footwear Committee has approved ASTM F2508, "Practice for Validation and Calibration of Walkway Tribometers Using Reference Surfaces." The Standard was developed by Subcommittee F13.10 on Traction, part of ASTM InternationalCommittee F13 on Pedestrian/Walkway Safety and Footwear with the intent of regulating tribometer performance characteristics.
At Kleinfeldt, we use the English XL Variable Incidence Tribometer for slip testing and we have a Certified XL Tribometrist on staff. We use the English XL VIT in our Forensic Engineering department while conducting assessments of walking surfaces with respect to slip-and-fall events for the legal and insurance industries.
