Backflow describes the undesirable reversal of the flow of water from a real or potential source of contamination into the potable water supply of a building. Depending upon application, health hazard conditions and local administrative plumbing codes, one of various types of existing backflow preventers must be installed in your building system to prevent sewer, wastewater and irrigation backflow into the clean water supply. Kleinfeldt, experts in cross-connection control, inspects your backflow problem to determine causal effect: back pressure or back siphonage issues require different preventive measures. The first—back pressure—is caused by higher pressures in downstream piping compared to supply pressure; the second—back siphonage—is the result of sub-atmospheric pressure in the water system piping.
