Thermography

Thermography is now considered an invaluable tool for investigating, diagnosing and analyzing energy efficiency and construction-related problems in both modern and historic buildings. At Kleinfeldt, we believe that the combination of our experience, sophisticated equipment, and technical skill combine to make us your ideal thermographic experts.  To be effective, a thermographer must be cognizant of equipment limitations, and be knowledgeable regarding the manner in which buildings absorb, retain and radiate heat energy. A good thermographer also has a working knowledge of building physics.

When Kleinfeldt is contracted to perform thermographic analysis of your building, we:

  • Locate and determine weak points in the building envelope (heat and sound bridges, insulation defects, leakages)
  • Locate water pipe leaks laid under the screed
  • Determine heat losses in heating systems, boilers, etc.
  • Examine the condition of cooled ceiling panels, ventilation and HVAC systems
  • Examine the seal-tightness of your building

Liability is a becoming a real issue for sellers, buyers and insurers. Construction, repair and renovation costs are dramatically increasing as owners bring construction lawsuits against contractors. Perspective building owners are increasingly concerned about ongoing costs, and about the quality and efficiency of their investments. Design flaws, entrained moisture in roofs and walls, and water leaks cause billions of dollars of damage to buildings every year. Poorly installed insulation and/or vapour barriers lead to condensation problems and building degradation in the form of rot, mould and mildew. Mould not only destroys building materials, it causes health problems for many individuals. While thermography cannot detect mould itself, it can find the cause of mould; that is, moisture. Roof thermography can pinpoint moisture in either flat or sloped roofs, and if repairs are made, roof life is extended, and replacements can often be eliminated or postponed.

Infrared thermographic imaging monitors energy efficiency of buildings. As energy costs skyrocket, thermography can uncover ways to save on heating and cooling costs and reduce the energy costs for HVAC equipment.

Call Kleinfeldt today for your thermographic evaluation - a one-time cost that could save you thousands in future expenditures.
