LEED Certification

Kleinfeldt is a recognized leader in understanding government programs designed to assist and reward those building owners and investors who endorse the Canadian climate change solution, and promote a path to a sustainable future.

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System both encourages and strives to accelerate the adoption of sustainable green building and development practices.

LEED is a third-party certification program advocating a whole-building approach to environmental sustainability in five key areas:

  • Sustainable site development
  • Water efficiency
  • Energy efficiency
  • Materials Selection
  • Indoor Environmental Quality

LEED Certification of your building is based on the total points score achieved utilizing a system of credits and prerequisites following an independent review and an audit. Four levels of LEED Certification (Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum) represent an adaptation of the USGBC LEED Green Building Rating System, but our Canadian LEED is tailored to the Canadian climate, and our construction practices and regulations.

In 2009, two rating systems were launched: LEED Canada for Homes arrived in March 2009, and LEED Canada for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance landed in August. Registration for LEED Canada for New Construction and Major Renovations (LEED Canada NC) opens June 10, 2010. LEED Canada Core and Shell (LEED Canada CS) is currently in the update process, and will be re-released with LEED Canada NC.

Accordingly, a rapidly-increasing number of private sector organizations are adopting the LEED Certification in order to:

  • Gain recognition for green buildings
  • Validate achievement through third party review
  • Qualify for a growing number of government incentives
  • Contribute to an ever-increasing 'green building' knowledge base

Simultaneously, the Canada Green Building Council has launched GREEN UP - Canada's Building Performance Program to develop an affordable and accessible tool for energy and environmental management for new and existing buildings.

We are able to work with you in a proactive manner to enable large-scale reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Kleinfeldt can demonstrate how to conserve energy, and how to benefit the environment through your investment properties
